Major Lareto P. Guglietta was appointed as a police officer for the Town of Burrillville in May 1987. He had been previously employed by the Rhode Island Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer in the Maximum Security building.
He was promoted to Sergeant in June 1993, Lieutenant in December 1997 and Major in April 2011. He is the Executive Officer, second in command to the Chief of Police and commands the Field Operations Bureau which includes the patrol division, detectives and prosecution. Major Guglietta is also in charge of Internal Affairs and Professional Standards.
Major Guglietta earned a Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Anna Maria College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. He also attended the Bryant University Institute for Police Leadership Development. Major Guglietta is the former Commanding Officer of the Burrillville Police Department Special Response Team. After the past twelve years as an instructor, Major Guglietta recently stepped down from his position as supervisor of the firearms program at the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy where he and his staff taught three recruit academy classes each year.
In December 2001, Major Guglietta graduated from the 207th Session of the prestigious, F.B.I. National Academy at Quantico, Virginia. He now serves as Past President of the New England Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates and Past President of the Rhode Island Law Enforcement Trainers Association.
