Citizen Police Academy Graduates Class of 2009

The latest Class of The Burrillville Police Department Citizen Police Academy completed the 13 week course on April 30, 2009 after a ceremony held at Pascoag Fire Department Hose #1. Seanator Paul Fogarty prepared citations for each class member and received thanks from the class and staff for assisting the class with a grant from the legislature. Kirby McCreadie was the spokesperson for the class. Each class graduate received a Citizen Police Academy shirt and certificate.

For those interested... listed below are the current qualifications required to become a Burrillville Police Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EMPLOYMENT:
At the time of application, candidates must possess an education equal to the completion of an Associates Degree (60 credit hours) in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice. A Bachelors degree in one of these fields is desired. Candidates who served honorably in active military service for two years or the National Guard or Reserves for four years may be substituted for educational requirements. Likewise, certification from the RI Municipal Police Academy as a Municipal Police Officer or three years of satisfactory employment as a Correctional Officer may be substituted for the educational requirements. Candidates must be a US citizen with a valid Rhode Island drivers license. The candidate must successfully pass drug screening; plus physical, written, psychological, and medical examinations A full background investigation is
part of the evaluation process. The Town of Burrillville offers an attractive benefits package.

Narcotic Forfeiture!
The vehicle you see pictured below was used during the delivery of narcotics to undercover police officers. After the case was concluded and resulted in a guilty verdict of the owner, the police department filed for forfeiture of the vehicle. The vehicle was awarded to the Burrillville Police Department. It will be used by the maintanence division for snow plowing and general use.

WINTER PARKING BAN - November 1st through March 31st
By order of Burrillville Town Ordinance 6-1.3 Overnight Parking Prohibited, no motor vehicles are premitted to park on any street within the Town of Burrillville between the hours of 1:00 a.m and 6:00 a.m. from November 1st through March 31st inclusive. Those who violate this order are subject to a summons of $10.00. If the fine is not paid within 7 days, the fine will double and a notice will be sent to the vehicle owner ordering that person to appear before the Burrillville Municipal Court. All appearences before the Municipal Court will be assessed an additional $25.00 court costs.

During the school vacation in August, School Resource Officer Dave Beauchemin gave a group of Burrillville Middle School students a tour of the police headquarters facility.
Burrillville Police Raid
Nets Large Amount of MARIJUANA
15 pounds of Marijuana along with cash on display for the press at the Burrillville Police Station.
A Burrillville Police Department undercover drug operation has been very successful. So far police have made nine arrests and confiscated just over 15 pounds of Marijuana with a street value of over $75,000.00. Also seized in the course of the arrests and investigation were four vehicles used by the drug dealers and just under $4,000.00 in cash.
New Department Patch
Sgt. Rob McBrier and Ofc. William Blais worked very hard and designed our new Burrillville Police Department patch. As you can see the new patch depicts the Burrillville Town Hall with the United States and Rhode Island flags waving in the back ground.

Click it or Ticket! - Coming in May!
During May, the Burrillville Police Department will be adding extra patrols to enforce Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt violations. This program is funded by a grant through the Rhode Island Governor's Office on Highway Safety. This is an enforcement program and police officers are instructed to issue a summons for violations. A violation of the occupant protection laws carries a fine of $ 75.00.
Those people wishing to have their child seats checked for proper installation can make an appointment by calling the Burrillville Police Station at 401-568-6255 and ask for Officer Pitts. Families that cannot afford a child safety seat can request one at the police station.
