The Planning Board is responsible for administering the Subdivision & Land Development Regulations of the Town as they review and critique applications for minor and major subdivisions and land developments in the Town. The Board may offer advisory opinions and recommendations to the Zoning Board of Review on zoning matters, and to the Town Council on other issues as requested by the Council. They are responsible for conducting studies and preparing reports on such areas as:
· Land use and land use regulation
· Transportation facilities
· Public facilities
· Blighted areas
· Housing problems and the development of housing programs
· Environmental protection
· Natural resource conservation
· Disaster protection
· Economic & social characteristics of the population
· Preservation of historic sites and buildings
· Economic Development
The Planning Board is also responsible for reviewing and updating the Comprehensive Plan, as mandated by State Law, and the Zoning Ordinance in a manner that protects public health, safety and promotes the general welfare. The Board periodically undertakes such other work as may be assigned by the Town Council in connection with the physical growth and development of the Town. The members are appointed by the Town Council according to Town Charter.
The Planning Board meets the first Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers. Planning Board agendas are prepared two weeks prior to the meeting. Items for consideration by the Planning Board must be submitted by the first Friday of the previous month, and in accordance with the submission requirements of the Subdivision & Land Development Regulations.
