SNOW REMOVAL:  The Department of Public Works plows and sands over 100 miles of roads.  Main roads will be cleard first, followed by side roads, then public ways.  Several passes with the plow may be required to open the roads properly.  During heavy snow storms, deep, heavy snow is problematic for everyone - for plow drivers as well as residents.  We ask for your patience and understanding during these unusual snow events.  Please help us out by keeping vehicles and objects out of the road.  Drivers do not intentionally push snow onto private property; however, it is very possible that the wake will end up on your property or in your driveway.  This is beyond our control and we greatly appreciate your understanding.  After the roads have been cleared, it is prohibited for residents to put snow/ice/slush back into the road.
Please click on the above link "Snow Removal" for more information and FAQs.

Once the roads and sidewalks have been cleared, we will address individual issues.  If your mailbox has been damaged, please click here

The Department of Public Works does not plow private driveways, the ends of driveways, or private roads.

Storm Drain Stenciling Program:   Department of Public Works has stenciled all the town owned and maintained storm drains.  You may notice some of the drains indicate "DRAINS TO STREAM".  This simply means that the drain has been inventoried and also lets the public know that the drain does not tie into some speacial treatment system making it ok to dump down the drain.

These marked drains tie right into the waterways you and your children fish and swim in.
PLEASE DON'T DUMP DOWN STORM DRAINS!

Clogged Storm Drain - If you live in an area that may be subject to periodic flooding during heavy rains and the DPW crews have not yet cleared a storm drain near your residence, DPW asks for your assistance by unclogging the drain(s).  If you are unable to clear/clean a drain that is clogged near your house, please report it by contacting the department at 568-4440 or the police department at 568-6255.  It is difficult for the DPW crews to cover every road during the fall when drains are most prone to clogging.  Please help us, help you!
