Comments from Katia Balassiano, Director of Planning
Katia Balassiano outlined the details of the CDBG funding for the current year. The three major programs are housing rehabilitation, the revitalization of Pascoag and program administration costs. The application will be for a total of $366,000.00.
Councilor Jacqueline Zahn asked what the chances are of receiving the total amount. Ms. Balassiano said that the application could be for up to $400,000.00 and that in the past few years the town has received funds of up to $190,000.00. Should the award be less than the total, the programs could be delayed. She said that she believes the town has a good chance of getting these funds.
Councilor Edward F. Bonczek stated that a number of groups have come before the Town Council through the years. They have stated that Burrillville had to prove that the town was willing to make the first move. He pointed out that the purchase of the Poulous Building demonstrates the Town s willingness.
Councilor Louis Bleiweis expressed reservations about the plan to revitalize downtown Pascoag, but stressed his hope that he is wrong.
