THE
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
SPRING LAKE CHAMPLIN RECREATION HALL:
A preliminary design has been completed for the consideration of heat and/or air conditioning of the Champlin Recreation Hall to allow for year round usage. Funds have been budgeted for the feasibility of a seperate well for the facility.
SPRING LAKE CAMPGROUND:
The new amphitheatre has been completed as an addition to the campground by Eagle Scout canidate Nathan Desautels.
BRANCH RIVER TRACK:
Track light repairs have been completed. Special thanks goes to Pascoag Utility District for donating their expertise and labor for this projected.
PARK AT SHIPPEE BRIDGE :
Thanks to the State of Rhode Island Department of Environmental Passive & Historic Park Grant received, a portion of land has been donated to the Town of Burrillville to aide in the construction of a new park near the historic Shippee Bridge. The park will include a grassy area with benches and plantings for all to enjoy, as well as benches for the fishing area. This project to be completed following the improvements to the bridge. Project design and implementation assistance by Eagle Scout Candidate Jeffrey Bowser.
COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER (BECKWITH-BRUCKSHAW LODGE):
Doors have been replaced with new locks installed. Roofing should be completed before the end of October 2008.
HAUSER MEMORIAL FIELD:
A new playground was installed with funds from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Open Space and Recreation Development Grant received in 2006 as part of Phase II field development.
BRANCH RIVER PARK:
Courts need to be resurfaced at Branch River Park and is included for budgeting under the Capital Improvement Plan program as a match for State of Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management funds.
KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL,INC.:
Grant received for purchase of (4) smoking receptacles for the Spring Lake Beach Facility. In addition, Keep America Beautiful sent 1,000 portable ashtrays to the facility for distribution.
SPRING LAKE BEACH RECREATION FACILITY:
The Burrillville Extended Care Division of the Parks and Recreation Department funded the new playground equipment installed at the Spring Lake Beach Facility.
RISE ENGINEERING:
As a result of the RISE Engineering Audit, new energy efficient lighting will be installed at the Burrillville Community Recreation Center (Beckwith-Bruckshaw Lodge) and the Burrillville Parks & Recreation Office by November 2008.
