Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is anything that is considered hazardous to dispose of in the landfill. These wastes typically contain harmful ingredients that is environmentally unsafe.
These items can be disposed of at the Rhode Island Resource Recovery’s Eco Depot by appointment only. RI residents may schedule an appointment by contacting Eco-Depot at 942-1430 ext. 241.
The following items can be dropped off at the Eco Depot:
Arts and crafts chemicals
Automotive and rechargeable nickel cadmium batteries (no alkaline batteries)
Bug sprays
Charcoal lighter fluid
Disinfectant
Drain clog dissolvers
Driveway sealer
Flea and tick dips, sprays and collars
Fluorescent lightbulbs and lamps
Gasoline
Lawn chemicals, fertilizers and weed killers
Metal polishes
Mothballs
Motor oil and filters
Muriatic acid (concrete cleaner)
Nail polishes and nail polish removers
Oil-based paints
Oven cleaner
Paint thinners, strippers, varnishes, and stains
Pest and rat poisons
Pool chemicals
Propane tanks
Rug and upholstery cleaners
Shoe polish
Turpentine
Windshield wiper fluid

For Latex Based Paints, residents are asked to take these steps:
1. Try to use all the paint first.
2. If unable to use all leftover paint, put kitty litter or sand into the paint to absorb all the residual paint letf over.
3. Place latex paint covered kitty litter into garbage bags and dispose with trash.
