Hearing 04-11-2001 Stop Signs
PUBLIC HEARING of the Town Council held Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 7:00 o'clock p.m. in the Council Chamber, Town Building, Harrisville, for and within the Town of Burrillville.

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Council President Wallace F. Lees; Councilors Jacqueline Zahn, Louis Bleiweis, Edward F. Bonczek, William E. Gonyea and Norman C. Mainville.

MEMBERS ABSENT:  William A. Andrews


Relative to amendments to Chapter VI of the General Ordinances of the Town of Burrillville, Stop Signs.

Council President Wallace F. Lees read the amendment into the record:

The Town Council of the Town of Burrillville hereby ordains as follows:

        Chapter VI of the General Ordinances of the Town of Burrillville is hereby amended as follows:

        6.4  STOP SIGNS
        6.4.1  Authority.  The Ordinance is enacted pursuant to the authority granted to Cities and Towns by Rhode Island General Laws of 1956 (2000 Reenactment).
        6.4.2  It shall be illegal to enter into the following streets without coming to a complete stop prior to entering:
        a.)  The Intersection of Elm Road and Stockwell Road;
                b.)  The Intersection of Stockwell Road and Elm Road;
                c.)  The Intersection of Maple Leaf Road and Stockwell Road;
                d.)  The Intersection of Stockwell Road and Maple Leaf Road;
        6.4.3  Erection of Stop Signs
                The Town shall erect Stop Signs to implement the provisions of this Amendment to the Ordinance,
        6.4.4  Penalty.
        The penalty for violating this provision of the Ordinance shall be a fine of Twenty-five ($25.00) Dollars.
        Effective Date.
        This Ordinance shall take effect twenty (20) days after its enactment.

2.      Comments from Colonel Lt. Kevin San Antonio, Acting Police Chief

Lieutenant Kevin San Antonio stated that the ordinance had been brought before the ordinance subcommittee after the Police Department had received requests from several area residents for a stop sign at that intersection.  The Police Department has reviewed and supports this amendment.

5.      VOTED for closure to the public hearing

Motion by Councilor William E. Gonyea.  Seconded by Councilor Norman C. Mainville.  The vote was unanimous by those present.  Voting in favor of the motion were Council President Wallace F. Lees, Councilors Jacqueline Zahn, Louis Bleiweis, Edward F. Bonczek, William E. Gonyea and Norman C. Mainville.  Councilor William A. Andrews was absent.

6.      VOTED to adjourn at 7:08 p.m.

Motion by Councilor William E. Gonyea.  Seconded by Councilor Norman C. Mainville.  The vote was unanimous by those present.  Voting in favor of the motion were Council President Wallace F. Lees, Councilors Jacqueline Zahn, Louis Bleiweis, Edward F. Bonczek, William E. Gonyea and Norman C. Mainville.  Councilor William A. Andrews was absent.
