Stormwater Management

The EPA’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Phase II Rules Interpretation requires “small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems or MS4’s” to obtain permits and establish a storm water management program intended to improve waterbodies by reducing the quantity of pollutants entering storm sewer systems during storm events. The State RIDEM mandated that all MS4’s adopt a Stormwater Management Plan that prescribes various goals, policies and actions related to minimizing stormwater contaminants as well as attenuating stormwater runoff.

Burrillville took a progressive approach by constructing two porous parking lots.  One serves the newly expanded Police Station. The other, depicted here, is within the Stillwater Mill Redevelopment District.
