Equipment

The Burrillville Police Department utilizes TRITECH Perform Public Safety Software

Like all police departments, the Burrillville Police uses specialized equipment to perform all sorts of police duties. In 2002, the police department received a grant which was used to purchase a Live Scan automated finger print machine. Instead of rolling inked prints on a finger print card, officers roll a persons finger across a glass platen on the machine. A digital camera inside takes a picture of the fingerprint and sends it electronically to the Rhode Island Bureau of Criminal Identification and a copy to the FBI. Within minutes, our department can find out if the person printed matches the identification of that person or whether the person is misrepresenting themselves. The person printed no longer has to have the black ink all over their hands and it is a much cleaner and accurate print.

In 2000, the Burrillville Police obtained a grant for $4,000.00 from Ocean State Power Company and utilized that funding in addition to a local law enforcement block grant to purchase an RU2 Speed Trailer.  The speed trailer is a great way to show people how fast they actually drive. It also slows traffic in neighborhoods when resident's request radar patrols . Due to staffing, the police cannot always sit an officer on a side street to monitor speeders. The trailer slows traffic down and also takes readings on the speed of all vehicles that pass and gives the police a computer printout of traffic volume and high and low speeds of all vehicles. Don't be suprised if a police car is just down the street past the trailer! Hey at least you'll know how fast you were going!
If you feel there is a speeding problem near you,you can request the radar trailer be placed in front of your house.  Send us an email requesting the trailer or call the station 401-568-6255.
