"Welcome to Burrillville"

The Gateway Project was completed by the Burrillville Conservation Commission in 2006 and was aimed as a long term plan to beautify a blighted area along Route 102 Broncos Highway adjacent to the intersection of Route 102, Inman and Old Nasonville Roads.  The adopt-a-spot area was adopted by the Conservation Commission through the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, since it is within their right-of-way for Broncos Highway.

The project entailed a design to create an aesthetic "Welcome" site into the town on the Route 102 corridor for motorists traveling south on Broncos Highway from North Smithfield.

The project entailed a "Welcome to Burrillville" sign, the planting of approximately 35 trees consisting of White Pine, Pin Oak and Sugar Maple and a pollinator plant meadow.  One Flowering Plum Tree was also planted as the project kickoff, which was a donation from the RI Tree Council.  The project was completed with ornamental plantings, landscape improvements around the welcome sign and a solar powered light to illuminate the Welcome into Burrillville at night time.

The Commission would like to thank the former Roots & Shoots for their generous donations made to the site in the previous years and also D.H. Keene for excavation services for the tree plantings.
