Burrillville Responds

Invenergy's Protest
b

In response to ISO-NE's decision to terminate its contract (CSO) with Invenergy to provide financial assistance for the proposed new (massive) gas fired power plant, Invenergy filed a protest with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Town of Burrillville has filed a formal response to that protest. The three filings are linked below.

Town Manager Michael C. Wood issued the following state about Invenergy's protest:

Invenergy is a multi-billion dollar company doing business all over the world. Given Invenergy’s wide range of experience, their approach to the Burrillville power plant project has been questionable. Many of their submissions have been deficient and their business approach chaotic.  Whatever problem(s) Invenergy is having to secure a permit from the State of Rhode Island to build and operate a power plan are self-induced. Burrillville has every right to properly evaluate and scrutinize any commercial project that is introduced into our community, including a massive power plant that has been described as the largest, single commercial development project in the State’s history.

Vetting a large-scale commercial project is normal course of business for any city or town, but apparently not in Invenergy’s universe.

Rather than blame the Town’s citizenry and leadership, as well as the environmental activists who are involved in any project of this nature, Invenergy should quit the blame game and take responsibility for their own actions, or lack thereof.

If that means that Invenergy loses its chance to operate in Rhode Island, so be it!
