Last Chance for Rhode Islanders to Be Heard on Proposed Massive Power Plant That Threatens State’s Pristine Environment
32 Cities and Towns Already Opposed- Hearing Expected to Draw Hundreds

Burrillville, RI: Members of the public and other interested parties will have their final chance to weigh in on the proposed Inverergy Clear River Energy Center power plant. The Energy Facility Siting Board which will decide whether to approve or reject Invenergy’s proposal will be taking public comment at the Burrillville High School Auditorium, on October 10, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Hundreds of people are expected to testify in opposition to the plant, including environmentalists, municipal officials (32 cities and towns have opposed the power plant), and concerned residents.

The Town of Burrillville opposes the plant and has argued, if constructed, it will severely impact the quality of life, not just for Burrillville, but for the entire state. Michael Wood, Burrillville town manager said, “We know that the proposed plant will ruin valuable forest land, harm our environment, and jeopardize native wildlife. And there are pressing concerns about the danger to the state’s air and water quality.”

The Town’s experts have also shown the new  $1 Billion plant, which will be constructed with ratepayers’ funds, is not needed to meet the region’s energy needs.
