Answers to your Questions & Town's Response to Correspondence
Questions were posed, and issues raised, at Town Council meetings in June, July and August. In an attempt to address them and other questions, a question and answer format has been created for the public’s benefit. The questions/issues are not listed in any particular order, so the response may be redundant or may appear in multiple places. Recent Legislation
The 2024 Rhode Island General Law relating to PFAS is vague and amorphous. Outside of the ban on firefighting foam, the law is wide open to interpretation, including but not limited to, which PFAS will be regulated and what those regulations are. It appears to pass off to non-elected officials the regulatory aspects of the law going forward.
More will be posted as we unwind the legislative testimony and exhibits used to create this law.
Read the legislation here: House Bill No. 7356 SUB A as amended AN ACT RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY -- CONSUMER PFAS BAN ACT OF 2024 (Enacts the Consumer PFAS Ban Act of 2024, prohibiting the intentional addition of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances of PFAS in products offered for sale or manufactured in the state as of January 1, 2027.)
