Presentation on the Artificial Turf Project at BHS

At the special meeting of September 5, 2024, relative to the artificial turf project at the Burrillville High School, the Town gave a presentation on the project to address concerns.

The presentation is at the bottom of this page.

At the end of the presentation the Town Council President provided a closing statement related to the presentation. Below is that statement.

"The test results from Eurofins, a world-renowned test laboratory, have shown that there is no danger to our aquifer or to our athletes from the field and the crumb rubber.  As Dennis [Anderson] said, facts are facts.  We can have opinions, we all have them. We know what they’re like. But facts are facts. Some may not like these facts, but it doesn’t change the facts.

This field, with its year-round bright green surface, bright lines, a Bronco logo at mid field, colored end zones with “BRONCOS” prominently labeled will be an inspiration to our youth.  It will encourage participation, it will instill pride in their community and more so, in themselves as they take to the field to play on it.  A turf field will provide the town and the schools with not only a beautiful complex, but one that the students can be proud to play on in any weather conditions. This field is an investment in the town and will help the school district attract and keep students who, in the age of school choice, are interested in athletics as well as academics.  Recreational league games held at the turf field will attract visitors to our town which in turn will help local businesses as visitors spend time and money in our community before and after the games.

The Town’s water districts, Rhode Island DOH/DEM, and the Burrillville School Committee asked the Town Council to perform due diligence.  Through our exemplary Administrative Team, including the Town Manager, Town Clerk, Director of DPW, our consultants Northeast Water Solutions and TRC and many other key personnel, we have done so, and the results are clear. This project will not affect our environment, will not affect our aquifer and drinking water, nor will it affect human health.  Participants using this field are not in danger from PFAS."
