Extreme Heat Alert / Cooling Center

The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency is monitoring an extreme heat watch beginning Wednesday this week. 

From the National Weather Service - Extreme Heat Watch Remains in Effect from Wednesday Morning Through Friday Evening 

Dangerously hot and humid conditions forecasted from Wednesday morning through Friday evening with heat index values up to 110° possible in portions of northern Connecticut, the majority of Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. 

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. 

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library is a Cooling Center

The Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library has been designated as a cooling center for those who need relief from the extreme heat and humidity. Come to the library during regular business hours. Be sure to bring your electronic devices and charging cables, and whatever you may need to be comfortable, including snacks.
