History
On March 10, 1998 the Burrillville Police Department held its first Citizen's Police Academy at the Burrillville Police Department. Numerous applications were received during the sign-up period and after review, eighteen (18) Citizens were selected for the very first Academy.
The purpose of this academy is to give the public a working knowledge of the Burrillville Police Department policies and procedures, through a series of classes, instructed by Burrillville Police Department personnel and other outside Law Enforcement Agencies. The more information the public has about their police department, the fewer suspicions, fears, and misconceptions will continue to exist. The 1998 motto of the Citizen's Police Academy became "Understanding each other, we can make a difference," which still prevails to this day.
