Is the power plant tied to the project to upgrade the Algonquin compressor station?

No, there are two separate projects. The second phase of three projects of the compressor station by Spectra Energy on the Algonquin property has already been permitted and construction was substantially completed in December 2015.These projects are regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. A third phase, titled "Access Northeast" (ANE), is in the planning stage. See the attachments to this FAQ for more information about ANE.

The Clear River Energy Center (CREC) power plant project is located on land abbutting the Spectra Compressor station but is not part of that project. The CREC project proposes to build a power plant on property to be purchased from Algonquin.

  • The CREC power plant project is just getting off the ground and is in the planning stages.
  • Project details will be better known when the permitting process starts.
