COMMERCE SAFE EXCHANGE

With the increasing number of people exchanging, selling, or buying merchandise on popular sites, such as “Craigslist” the Burrillville Police Department would like to provide a safe place for citizens to facilitate their transactions or exchanges of merchandise.

The purpose is to establish a “Safe Exchange Zone” at the Burrillville Police Department Headquarters:

1.         The “Safe Exchange Zone” will be in the front parking lot, adjacent to the fence near the gate.  This area is directly covered by a camera for monitoring the exchange and in close proximity to the light post for after hour’s exchanges.

2.         The lobby, which is also monitored by a camera and has the presence of a dispatcher, may also be utilized.  Persons making exchanges do not need to check in with the dispatcher nor do they need to make an appointment.

3.         Under no circumstances will a member of the Burrillville Police Department (sworn or non-sworn) in their official capacity, engage in, or assist, the private transaction or exchange.

4.         No member of the Burrillville Police Department will authenticate the item(s) being exchanged or the method of payment being offered.
