Minutes of September 14 Recreation Commission Regular meeting

Old Business
Recreation Program Information:
• Acrobats – Four students are registered to date for the fall session. Session begins October 6th.
• Afterschool Basketball & Kickball – WLC has 5 students enrolled, SFE has 12 and ATL has 6 students
participating. Will be offering a shorter session to ATL to encourage additional enrollment.
• Archery – 21 students are enrolled with 3 on a waiting list. Fall session begins October 2nd –
November 20th.
• Art Classes - Fall 5 week session starts October 14th at SFE. October 17th adult and teen art
workshop is being held at the Lodge.
• Burrillville Youth Basketball - Basketball has commenced and is utilizing both the dome and
multipurpose gyms at BHS.
• Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program - Next two packing sessions are scheduled for October 21st and
1
November 18th. Donations of non-perishable food items are needed for the 2015-2016 school year.
• Dance Program – Four students have registered for Jazz and hip hop.
• Facebook- Posted Green Festival Pictures.
• Green Festival – $136 dollars was raised at the Green Festival for the Weekend Snack Pack
Program.
• Karate- Karate will be offered at Steere Farm each Tuesday beginning October 20th from 315- 415 for
ages 6-12.
• Fall Floral and Craft Workshop – Workshop scheduled for November 18th at 1pm at the Lodge.
• Forever Fit – Average attendance for the month of September was 11.
• Hula Hoop Classes – 8 students have enrolled for the fall session.
• Nutrition Classes/Weight Loss Classes- Next session begins October 28th . Classes held on
Wednesdays at the Lodge. 6:00 pm for new members, 7:30 for continuing members.
• Parks and Rec Calendars/Newsletters/Website – October calendar distributed around Town.
• Safe Sitter – Next Safe Sitter Class scheduled for April 21st, 2016 from 8am -230pm at the
Burrillville Middle School Media Center for students ages 11-14. Learn safe childcare practices, good
babysitting skills, and how to be a responsible adolescent.
• Sunshine Club – Next meeting scheduled for October 19th. September meeting had 10
participants that made 21 gifts for area nursing home residents.
• Winter Floral and Craft Workshop – Winter workshop scheduled for December 16th at 1pm at t he
Lodge.
Recreation Center Expansion Feasibility Study:
-Looking for room for new fields (softball, football), expansion of basketball court
Gonyea Park Updates:
-Pending electrical hookup
White Mill Mark:
-Requires additional paving for parking
Spring Lake Beach / 2015 Season:
-James Alix motioned to table this item until later in the meeting

-Discussed improvements including new sand, toy tonka trucks, etc
-Overall a successful season at the beach
-Boat rentals and concessions worked out very well over the summer
-Arcade lease is up, out to bid this off season
-Spring Lake procedures can be revisited

Stillwater Recreation Area:
-final pavement marking was done
-awaiting tree replacement
Hauser Lights:
-bids received for lighting
-Jeff McCormick to recommend Kay electric / 300kW used generator
Brown House:
-now empty, demolition and rebuild to be done in offseason
-bids for work are due by 10/14 @ 2pm EDT
Spring Lake Swim Program:
-no new updates
-removing from agenda
