Minutes of November 9 Recreation Commission Regular meeting

Recreation Program Information:

• Afterschool Basketball & Kickball – Next session to begin on January 20th
• Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program – Raffle to be held at the Santa at Stillwater event to benefit the
backpack program. Four students have been added to the weekly deliveries. We are at our highest
number with 34 students serviced per week.
• Holiday Card Contest– Cards printed and available for purchase at Lil’ General, Town Hall, and Parks and
Recreation. Winners were awarded a pack of cards along with a certificate for skating at the Levy Rink.
All winners and participants received a certificate of appreciation as well as pencil made from recycled
tires.

• Karate- Karate program postponed until the spring.
• Parks and Rec Calendars/Newsletters/Website – December calendars and winter newsletter distributed.
• Santa Calling –Six santas have volunteered and 52 santa calling forms were received to date. Santas
began making calls on December 9th.
• Santa at Stillwater – Event on schedule for 12/12/15.
• Special Needs Recreation Programs/Classes– Meeting scheduled for January with the Burrillville Special
Ed Advisory to discuss ideas for new programs. Researching program options and taking resident
feedback regarding desired activities.
• Sunshine Club– Volunteer appreciation meeting had 8 members in attendance. They enjoyed a pizza
lunch (courtesy of George’s), soda, and cupcakes and brownies and then made 26 gifts for December
birthdays.
• Town Common Holiday Decorations– Harrisville Fire Department put up the tree and the lights.
• Winter Floral and Craft Workshop – Six participants have registered to date for the Winter Workshop.
Recreation Center Expansion Feasibility Study:
-no new updates
Hauser Lights:
-generator has been purchased
-awaiting equipment for bathroom
Brown House:
-Demolition scheduled for later this week
Recreation Commission Project Dedications:
-no new updates, removing from agenda
Update on Champlin Hall Management Changes
-reviewing rental agreement changes
New Business
Jeff McCormick mentioned the Spring Lake arcade bid sent out
