Discussion:
R e p o r t o n R e c r ea t i o n P r o gra m I n f o rm a t i o n
-Blackstone in Bloom – Project nearly complete at Bleiweis Park. DPW summer crew
assisted with mulch and weeding. Lions and Conservation Commission volunteers
planted 5 trees and spread grass seed. Parks and Rec, Lions and Conservation
Commission planted flowers/plants. Roots and Shoots assisted with design and layout.
Judging to take place on June 27th.
-Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program – Several monetary donations received this
week. Two families have signed up for the summer program. Working with the nurses
to continue to provide the bags to children who participate in the summer ESY program.
$395 was raised in cash for the Stuff the Bus Fundraiser. Stuff the bus fundraiser was a
HUGE success. Over $300 was collected in monetary donations, and almost all bus
seats were filled with food. All collected food has been inventoried for the fall.
-Earth Day Clean Up – A total of 4.17 tons of litter was collected.
-Facebook/Newsletters/Website- June calendar and family fair trifold posted. Stomp out
Styrofoam video posted. Summer newsletter posted around Town, posted Summer
Meals Program, Stuff the Bus photos, and Summer Art Class Flyer. Posted May
Calendar, Summer Flyer, Family Fair, Hoops Camp, Multi-sport, Safe Sitter, Adult tap,
Line dancing and Self Defense Class. Posted Stuff the Bus pictures.
-Family Fair – 41 registrations to date. Working on layout and maps. 17 raffle items
promised.
-Forever Fit – Approximately 25 people have been attending.
-Line Dancing – New classes being offered at the Lodge from June 30th to August 26th.
Sunday evenings 7-8:30 pm. $40 for 8 lessons or a drop in fee of $8. Taught by
Christine Chito.
-Senior Lunch and Learn– Finalizing dates and locations for next lunch and learn events.
-Self Defense Class – New class to teach self-protection. Class to be held on June 13th
from 7-815pm at WLC. Fee of $15 per participant. Class taught by RI Self Defense.
-Senior Transportation Subcommittee- First meeting was a success with 15 people in
attendance. Both RIPTA and AAA were there to offer support. RIPTA to see if they can
get the flex zone stops altered to meet the needs of seniors at the housing complexes.
-Summer Camps- New summer tap program to run from June 5th – August 14th.
Finalizing plans for summer tennis program. Finalizing plans for two weeks of multisport,
two weeks of art and one week of hoops camp to be offered this summer.
-Summer Meals Program- Working with local farmers to see if there is a way to
collaborate to provide excess programs to summer meal participants. Program to be
offered again this summer with a second location at Veteran’s Park in Pascoag.
Parks and Rec to assist with advertising and recruiting volunteers, as well as providing
activities and entertainment for the opening week of July 8th. Program runs through
August 16th
-Sunshine Club– Next meeting scheduled for June 17th.
