-Burrillville Aging Stronger Committee – 11 vendors registered to date for the November
Lunch and Learn, and 127 residents signed up, with 11 needing Town Transportation.
Signs up around town. Advertised in bargain buyer and on mobile sign.
-Boot Camp – There were 389 participants for the month of September.
-Brains and Balance Class – There were 10 participants
-Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program – 40 participants this year. Levy School has
a severe nut allergy student so all bags have to be nut free. Levy to collect macaroni
and cheese at their upcoming Trunk or Treat Event. Pawsox donated a bunch of snacks,
water and baseball hats. Volunteers are making “birthday bags” to give to children on
the week of their birthday. The bags will have cake mix, frosting, plates and napkins etc.
A total of $384 was raised at the Green Festival for the BWSP program. Berean Baptist
to held a fundraiser in September with 10 % of the proceeds to support the program.
Silgan Plastics in Greenville donated a bunch of food to the BWSP program.
-Facebook/Newsletters/Website- Shared for Pete’s Sake Fundraiser. Shared Lunch and
Learn, RAD kids at SFE and October calendar. shared EEE info for state of RI and
Berean Baptist fundraiser, volunteer rides flyer posted, tap flyer posted, Silgan BWSP
donations posted, Zumba gold, Zumba and Tinkergarten, Rad Kids, Guitar lessons,
Multisport, Karate flyers all posted.
-Fencing – Instructor not teaching this year due to space issues and personal reasons.
-Forever Fit – Average is 32 for September.
-Girls Softball – New bases were installed at Hauser this week. Girls softball starts 9/2 at
Hauser and will be utilizing the lights as of 9/16. Girls softball has set up a new
facebook page. New Burrillville Girls Softball program to begin using
Hauser in the Spring. League is currently taking registrations and holding
indoor clinics this summer and fall.
-For Pete’s Sake and Rosie’s Too- Met with board members of this local non-profit that
holds events for special needs adults at a farm in Town. Planning to collaborate on a
future formal dance event to be held at the Lodge for adults with special needs, as well
as department support for their current events.
-Greenfest- Event was a huge success with approximately 1000 people in attendance.
Workshops were well attended and the electric car display was a success.
-Guitar Lessons – WLC has 14. SFE has 13. SFE started September 25th. WLC begins
September 23rd. Instructor to add an additional time slot at each school for beginners.
Beginners at WLC on Mondays from 8am-8:40am and for returning students at WLC
from 8am-8:40am, and at SFE for beginners on Wednesdays from 8am-8:40 and for
returning students on Fridays from 8am-8:40am.
-Hero Park – Working with Ultiplay on several options for expansion of Hero Park with
DEM grant funds. Looking to add toddler/baby swings, a parent child swing, shaded
picnic area as well as different playground structures not found at current parks.
-Holiday Card Contest – Contest entries have been coming in. Flyers sent home with
students. Entries due back on October 11th. Council to judge the entries on October
23rd.
-Karate – Currently there are 3 students enrolled in the home school class and 4 in the
WLC class
-Multi-sport – afterschool multi-sport program. SFE has 14 participants. WLC begins
November 13th.
-Rad Kids Program – 7 students have signed up to participate in the program at WLC.
-Senior Transportation Subcommittee- Second Driver welcome session scheduled for
November 18th. Another advertising push to take place between now and then. NRI
Now, flyers home with elementary school students, facebook/web/bargain buyer and
flyers at the November Lunch and Learn. Working with AAA to find ways to capture their
defensive driving participants as potential volunteer drivers. 6 residents expressed
interested in the volunteer driver program but only 2 attended the first welcome session
in October.
-Sunshine Club– October meeting to make 28 gifts. Sunshine club had 8 volunteers that
made 27 gifts. Next meeting is scheduled for October 21st.
-Tinkergarten – New classes aimed to host several important capabilities, including
empathy, collaboration, creativity, persistence and problem solving. Classes and
activities help kids ages 6 months—8 years develop core life skills while enjoying
healthy, fun, engaging experiences in the physical freedom of local green spaces. Three
different classes start October 20th at White Mill Park on various days through January.
-Yoga – Time changed from 6:30-7:30.
-Zumba – New class being offered on Tuesday nights at the Lodge at 6:45 pm.
-Zumba Gold – New class for seniors being offered on Wednesdays from 1-2 pm at the
Lodge on November 6th. $3/class.
