• Afterschool Basketball & Kickball – 11 students registered at Steere Farm, 15 registered at Levy.
Callahan class cancelled due to lack of enrollment.
• Archery – 16 students have registered for the next session of archery which began April 29th.
• Art Classes- 10 students have registered for art at Levy.
• Bike Path – Poop stations have been put up at the bike path, along with trash and recycling receptacles.
• Burrillville Weekend Snack Pack Program –Packed the remaining food for the school year on 4/18.
Discussed fundraising options with the volunteers. Currently working on a T-shirt design for a fundraiser.
• Earth Day Cleanup – 230 volunteers helped with the cleanup. Several smaller cleanups still taking
place.

• Earth Day Recycling and Energy Conservation Poster Contest – Recycled craft and poster making
workshop held at the Jesse Smith Library during school vacation week. 12 children attended. Winners
selected. Award ceremony scheduled for May 17th at 6pm.
• Family Fair – Updating flyer, invitation letter, and bargain buyer ad. Visited site to adjust layout due to
space limitations from the new playground. Scheduled zoo mobile. Contacted instructors to schedule
demonstrations. Meeting scheduled with Jesse Smith Library and Pascoag Utility District to discuss
changes and layout the week of 5/9. Signs dropped off to have the date changed. Contacted police
department regarding a detail officer. Submitted paperwork to state police for raffle. Updated email list
for all prior participants. Contacted National Guard regarding the possibility of a rock wall and/or giant
football toss. Submitted request to use AT Levy lot. RI Novelty to donate prizes for games. Contacted
Monroe Dairy regarding free samples from their cow van. Contacted RI Blood Center regarding blood
drive. Ordered 1000 giveaway bags. Contacted IGA to order pies for the pie eating contest.
• Forever Fit – Average attendance for the month of April was 12.
• Friendship Day – Collaborative effort between the Burrillville Special Ed Advisory Committee, Parks and
Rec, and the Jesse Smith Library, as an effort to connect with children/families with special needs. Kids
were invited to attend whether they needed help or wanted to be a helper. Six families attended, two
from out of town. Children participated in activities and information was available to parents.
• Nutrition Classes/Weight Loss Classes- 2 people have signed up for the new session, 3 participants in
the second session.
• Parks and Rec Calendars/Newsletters/Website – May calendars distributed. Working on summer flyer.
• Pickle Ball- Working with residents who are interested in offering free pickle ball lessons in Town.
• Picnic in the Park–Working with the Jesse Smith Library to offer a new summer program where residents
are encouraged to visit our new parks. One day each month during the summer residents are invited to
check out of our parks, listen to a story and participate in an activity with recreation department and
library staff. Picnic in the Park Schedule as follows: June 29th (Stillwater Playground), July 27th (White
Mill Park), and August 24th (Hero Park).
• Safe Sitter – Next safe sitter class scheduled for August 11th from 8am -230pm at the Burrillville Middle
School Media Center for students ages 11-14. Learn safe childcare practices, good babysitting skills,
and how to be a responsible adolescent. Instruction for this 1-day program includes: Babysitting as a
Business, Preventing Injuries, Success on the Job, Injury Management, Child Care Essentials, Safety for
the Sitter, Preventing Problem Behavior, Behavior Management, Care of a Choking Infant/Child, and
Rescue Breathing.
• Sunshine Club– March meeting made 27 birthday gifts. Next meeting scheduled for May 23rd.
Recreation Center Expansion Feasibility Study:
-no new updates, removing from agenda
Hauser Lights:
-New fencing will be installed around area where new generator will be located
Brown House:
-Deck and siding completed, plumbing and electrical work pending. Discussed old photographs for
'museum' room

Update on Champlin Hall Management Changes:
-no new updates
Dog Park:-
Location near dog pound, working on sketch. Develop Dog Park Policy, to be discussed in June agenda
Brochure for Parks
-Brochures not available for Recreation Commission review at this point
New Business
Review Recent Emergency Fund Allocation
-Who holds for funds? Use for repairs for mechanical issues, etc
Planning of Recreation Expansion
-Separate new building for full gym, Recreation offices. Five acres available for development
Review Spring Lake Policy & Procedure
-Judy review policy & procedure - proposed changes.
1. remove keyfob
2. procedure for boats
3. swim lessons
4. closing of the gate
5. Fees need to be changed
6. Remove Cheri Hall from doc
7. No policy for concession stand now that it is town run
8. Procedure for possibility of missing money
9. Remove term 'senior lifeguard' - there is no head lifeguard
Possibility of accepting credit cards (square reader).
