How to Prepare Solid Waste & Recycling Carts

Properly Preparing your Solid Waste & Recycling for Weekly Collection

Cart Set Out:  Residents are asked to put their solid waste and recycling carts curbside no more than 24 hours before and no later than 7:00 am on your scheduled collection day.  Place carts no more than 3 feet from the curb or road edge, and 4 feet from other obstacles such as telephone poles and mailboxes.  Place one cart one each side of the driveway OR place carts 3 feet apart.  Cart handles and wheels should face the house;  Arrows on cart lid should face the street.

Solid Waste Cart: All regular household solid waste MUST BE BAGGED before being placed in the cart with the BLACK LID. The lid must close tightly, and no material may be sticking out.  Items outside the cart will not be collected with the exception of solid waste in Town approved Overflow Bags.

Recycle Cart: All recyclables should be placed LOOSE in the cart with the YELLOW LID. Do not place recyclables in plastic bags.  Shredded paper is the ONLY item that should be placed in a plastic bag before being placed in the recycle cart. The lid must close tightly, and no material may be sticking out.  Recyclable material outside of the cart will not be collected. Bulky Item Collection: Residents who would like a bulky item collected curbside must schedule an appointment with Waste Management by calling 800-972-4545.  There is a fee of $18 per bulky item which is paid directly to Waste Management.

A bulky item is an item of solid waste that is not recyclable and is too large to fit inside a bag placed in the Town cart.  Examples include a couch, chair, desk, rug, carpet etc.

Appliance Collection: Residents who would like an appliance collected curbside must schedule an appointment with Waste Management by calling 800-972-4545.  There is a fee of $21 per appliance which is paid directly to Waste Management.

Non-Freon Appliances can be brought to the Whipple Ave Recycling and Compost Facility for no fee.

Bulky items & appliances may be placed at curbside no more than 24 hours before the collection day. Appliances may be placed at curbside no more than 24 hours before the collection day.
